Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970 – an annual event to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The theme this year is “Restore Our Earth”. Earth Day’s mission is to empower and expand the environmental movement. You can protect and celebrate the planet at the same time.
We wanted to show some of the amazing young Black activist that are making a difference within 2021 and beyond.
Isra Hirsi is a 16 year old climate activist daughter of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and is the co-executive director of the US Youth Climate Strike.
Anita Okunde is active in the UK Student Climate Network (UKSCN) – the grassroots youth climate strikes organisers in the UK.
Elizabeth Wanjiru Wathuti is a Kenyan environment and climate activist and founder of the Green Generation Initiative.
Dominique Palmer is a climate justice activist within the UK who was featured in the Forbes 100 UK Environmentalists list.
